The Kosovo Police have clarified that no individual has been arrested in connection with alleged war crimes related to the Krushë e Madhe massacre, contradicting earlier media reports.
According to Police spokesperson for the Prizren Region, Shaqir Bytyqi, the individual identified by the initials Sh.B. voluntarily reported to the Prizren Police Station after public allegations were made linking him to war crimes in the Krushë e Madhe and Prizren area.
“The reports claiming that he was arrested are not accurate. He appeared voluntarily at the Prizren Police Station as a complainant. Upon the order of the prosecutor, his statement was forwarded to the Special Prosecution for further review. He was interviewed as a complainant and then released,” Bytyqi told Reporteri.
Earlier on Friday, media outlets had reported that Sh.B. had been arrested following allegations made during the television program Kosova Today on Klan Kosova.
The Kosovo Police also issued an official statement reiterating that the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes is the only competent authority within the police responsible for receiving, verifying, investigating, and processing information, criminal reports, and cases related to war crimes committed during the 1998–1999 Kosovo war.
The Directorate carries out its work in close coordination with the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, specifically its War Crimes Department.
The police emphasized that any information, evidence, or reports concerning alleged war crimes should be submitted directly to the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes and the Special Prosecution, which are responsible for handling such cases through professional and confidential procedures.
The Kosovo Police and the Special Prosecution also called on citizens, witnesses, and anyone with information related to alleged war crimes to cooperate with the competent authorities by submitting any relevant evidence through official channels.
