Serbia’s National Assembly will resume its extraordinary session on Wednesday as lawmakers continue debating an opposition-led motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Đuro Macut’s government.
The session is scheduled to continue at 10:00 a.m. and focuses solely on the proposal submitted by 62 opposition lawmakers seeking a parliamentary vote on the government’s confidence.
The extraordinary session was convened at the request of 109 MPs from the ruling parliamentary group “Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia Must Not Stop.”
Concluding Tuesday’s debate, Prime Minister Đuro Macut said his government would continue adopting measures in the interests of citizens, adding that voters would ultimately judge both his performance and that of his cabinet.
Macut also pledged to build authority through dialogue with ministers and said his government would continue pursuing what it considers the best solutions for Serbia’s citizens. He criticized parts of the parliamentary debate, arguing that many of the comments made by opposition lawmakers were driven by ill intent.
The no-confidence motion was originally submitted on February 13 by lawmakers from several opposition parties, including the National Movement of Serbia–New Face of Serbia, the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), Serbia Centre (SRCE), We – The Strength of the People led by Prof. Dr. Branimir Nestorović, the Ecological Uprising, the Green-Left Front (ZLF), the Free Citizens Movement (PSG), the Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Serbia (POKS), and independent MP Miloljub Albijanić.
