Kosovo’s Special Prosecution Office is expected to request pre-trial detention for two suspects arrested in connection with the discovery of a mass grave in Zubin Potok, where human remains believed to belong to victims of wartime executions were recently uncovered.
The prosecution confirmed that it will seek detention for the suspects, identified by the initials M.J. and M.B., on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population.
The information was confirmed to Gazeta10 by Abnora Luta, spokesperson for the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office.
The two suspects were detained after authorities uncovered a mass grave in Zubin Potok containing human remains believed to belong to 23 intellectuals from Mitrovica, who are suspected to have been executed by Serbian forces during the 1999 Kosovo war.
At the request of the Special Prosecution Office and under an order issued by the Basic Court in Prishtina, the relevant institutions carried out the exhumation, autopsy, and identification of the human remains at the site in the municipality of Zubin Potok.
The investigation remains ongoing as forensic experts continue the identification process and prosecutors pursue legal proceedings related to the alleged war crimes.
