Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said Friday that parliamentary elections in Serbia could be held in October or November 2026, while expressing confidence that the country would continue what he described as a “responsible policy.”
Speaking during a visit to the Expo construction site alongside Chinese Ambassador Li Ming, Vučić was asked by a Chinese journalist whether the upcoming elections could affect relations between Belgrade and Beijing.
“On the other hand, the elections will be either in October or November, and I believe that we will have a continuation of responsible policy,” Vučić said.
The statement represents one of the clearest indications to date of the potential timing of Serbia’s next parliamentary elections, although Vučić did not announce a specific election date.
During the visit, Vučić also praised relations between Serbia and China, saying that, with the support of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the two countries had established what he called a “steel friendship.”
“I believe that in recent times, thanks to President Xi, we have established a steel friendship between China and Serbia in the true sense of the word, and no one can ruin it,” Vučić said.
Vučić was visiting the Expo construction site as Serbian and Chinese workers race to complete the project. He said there were approximately three and a half months remaining before the deadline and expressed concern about whether the work could be completed on time.
The possibility of elections in October or November comes amid continued political tensions in Serbia, where the government has faced sustained pressure from opposition groups and student-led protests.
