The Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica has filed an indictment against V.M. on charges of attempted aggravated murder and unauthorized possession of weapons, alleging that he assisted other individuals in an attack and abduction involving Milan Vukašinović on November 1, 2025.
Vukašinović, from Leposavić, was wounded under circumstances that remained unclear for months before he was taken to Serbia. His lawyer, Ivan Ninić, was the first to publicly raise the case, saying that Vukašinović had been shot multiple times in the back.
According to KoSSev, the indictment was filed by the Serious Crimes Department of the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica before the Basic Court in Mitrovica.
Prosecutors allege that V.M. intentionally assisted other individuals in committing the crime from an unspecified date until November 1, 2025.
According to the indictment, on the morning of November 1, V.M. photographed Vukašinović’s vehicle near his home and sent the photographs to a person identified by the initials A.F.
Vukašinović was subsequently contacted and allegedly arranged to travel to a location in the village of Koporić, in the municipality of Leposavić, to collect honey.
When Vukašinović set off in his Niva vehicle, prosecutors allege that V.M. informed A.F. by telephone that he was traveling “in the direction of the border.”
After Vukašinović arrived at the agreed location, prosecutors allege that unidentified individuals shot and abducted him before taking him into Serbia. V.M. is therefore charged with attempted aggravated murder.
Weapons also cited in indictment
The indictment also charges V.M. with unauthorized possession of weapons.
Prosecutors allege that a search of his home in Lešak uncovered a double-barreled hunting rifle, a barrel from a long firearm, a hunting vest containing 28 rounds of ammunition and an additional 11 rounds for a long firearm.
The weapons and ammunition were confiscated.
The Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica has asked the court to find the defendant guilty and impose a sentence in accordance with the law.
Vukašinović case
V.M., from Lešak, was arrested on December 20 in a joint operation by the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency as part of the investigation into the Vukašinović case, KoSSev reported.
At the time, Kosovo’s then-acting Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla said the arrested man was a former member of Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs who had subsequently been integrated into the Kosovo Police under the 2013 Brussels Agreement before later resigning.
Sveçla alleged that there were reasonable suspicions V.M. had cooperated with Serbian security structures, including in connection with the Vukašinović case.
Serbia’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija said on the same day that the arrested man was Vidosav M., describing the arrest as “unfounded” and a “classic attack on Serbs for pre-election purposes.” The office did not mention Vukašinović in its statement, according to KoSSev.
Vukašinović was wounded on November 1, 2025, before eventually ending up in Serbia. His lawyer, Ivan Ninić, subsequently brought public attention to the case and said his client had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the back.
Vukašinović’s account of the attack
According to testimony Vukašinović later gave to the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Prokuplje, published by Nova.rs, he had set out that day to meet a man from whom he was supposed to collect honey and rakija.
Vukašinović said that while traveling along an alternative route, he encountered a tree placed across the road but continued driving. After reaching a meadow, he said, his vehicle was surrounded by unidentified individuals who opened fire.
According to his account, after he was wounded, the attackers transferred him to another vehicle and drove him to a hospital in Prokuplje. Following initial treatment, he was transferred to the Clinical Center in Niš and later ended up in detention.
His family has previously claimed that he was left severely impaired, with a bullet lodged in his spinal column, and that he lost a kidney as a result of the shooting.
A separate criminal proceeding is being conducted against Vukašinović in Serbia, while his lawyer has filed a criminal complaint alleging an attempt on his life.
The latest indictment in Kosovo represents a significant development in an investigation that has remained politically sensitive because of competing claims by Kosovo and Serbian authorities over the circumstances surrounding the attack and the identities and motives of those involved.
