US President Donald Trump is calling on European countries to reimburse the United States for the assistance Washington provided to Ukraine during the administration of former President Joe Biden.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described the aid as being worth “hundreds of billions of dollars,” arguing that the United States provided the support without receiving compensation.
According to Trump, this is money that European countries would have had to spend themselves if Washington had required them to cover the cost of the assistance.
“We will be asking for this money to be returned, albeit with a delay,” Trump wrote. The actual amount cited by Trump, however, remains disputed.
Trump: US Has Sufficient Ammunition
Trump also claimed that the United States has “practically unlimited quantities of ammunition,” saying that Washington has far more ammunition than it needs for potential military operations against Iran.
He also emphasized that the United States is producing ammunition on a large scale.
The remarks come amid reports that US stocks of certain precision weapons and air-defence missiles have declined significantly as a result of the war with Iran, raising concerns about the readiness of the US military for potential future conflicts.
Trump’s comments also come as Republicans face growing electoral pressure over the Iran war. Both the war in Ukraine and the conflict with Iran, together with their economic consequences, could influence whether Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in the November midterm elections.
