Manja Grčić has resigned as director general of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) following calls for her departure from candidates representing the student-backed electoral list and a group of employees at the public broadcaster.
In a letter to the RTS Board of Directors, Grčić said she had made the decision after considering the circumstances in which the public broadcaster was operating. She argued that her departure would allow the institution to continue its work without disruption.
Grčić asked the board to take the necessary steps without delay to ensure continuity in management and an orderly handover of responsibilities. She also expressed her willingness to cooperate throughout the transition.
Meanwhile, RTS confirmed that Grčić had dismissed Bojana Mladenović from her position as editor of the News Program and proposed Borivoje Uskoković as her successor.
Separately, a group of 70 RTS employees has proposed journalist Jovan Memedović for the position of acting director general of the public broadcaster.
The RTS Board of Directors is expected to hold an electronic meeting to consider matters related to the changes in the institution’s leadership.
Grčić’s resignation follows demands by candidates from the student-backed list and some RTS employees for the removal of the director general, other members of the management team and the news program editor.
The developments come amid growing pressure on Serbia’s public broadcaster over its leadership and editorial direction.
