The United States representative at the UN Security Council has urged Serbia to ensure accountability for the attack that occurred in Banjskë, Kosovo, last year. He emphasized that Serbia has made no progress in holding the perpetrators of that attack accountable.

At the UN Security Council, the U.S. representative added that the mandate of UNMIK should be reconsidered, calling on UNMIK to maintain neutrality and impartiality.

“UNMIK has exceeded its initial mandate, and we call on the Council to review UNMIK’s mandate and to start planning its sunset. We encourage UNMIK to maintain a neutral perspective and express UNMIK’s impartiality in the future. It has been over a year since the paramilitary attack in northern Kosovo, and Serbia has made no progress in ensuring accountability of those responsible, including Radoičić. We encourage full accountability in line with the rule of law,” he stated.

He expressed concern about the actions of the Government of Kosovo, describing them as uncoordinated.

“We remain concerned about uncoordinated actions from the Government of Kosovo that are not aligned with Kosovo’s commitment to work in this direction. These actions endanger the livelihood of communities and hinder the path toward normalizing relations. Dialogue is the agreed path to normalization and progress toward European institutions. The U.S. continues to work with the UN, EU, and OSCE to prevent escalating actions from any party, and we will continue to work towards implementing all agreements, including the establishment of the Association.”
