The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that an agreement for the release of hostages has been reached in Doha, and he has ordered the security cabinet to meet on Friday.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was updated by the negotiating team that agreements have been reached for a deal regarding the release of hostages,” his office said in the early hours of Friday.

His office accused Hamas on Thursday of rejecting some key elements of the agreement in order to delay it. However, no evidence was provided to support this claim, according to The Guardian.

While a ceasefire was not mentioned as part of the agreement, it is understood that the hostages will not be released by Hamas without one.

Israeli airstrikes on Thursday killed 72 people, despite it being reported by mediating states that an agreement had been reached for a ceasefire and hostage release, set to take effect on January 19.
