The Ambassador of the European Union to Kosovo, Aivo Orav, spoke about the recent visit of the EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, and among other things, about the issue of the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities.

Orav said that the Association must be implemented, as according to him, this agreement was ratified in the Kosovo Assembly.

Furthermore, he added that we need to wait and see what Sorensen will ask the parties to do regarding the Association.

“But at this moment, there is nothing else agreed upon. And we hope very much that these agreements will be implemented. Now, if we talk about the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities, yes. It must be implemented because this is one of the few, or the only agreement, that was ratified by the Kosovo Assembly with a two-thirds majority. So, it means that if it is ratified, then it must be implemented. If the first step has been taken, then the second step should be taken. But this also applies to the other side, to Serbia, because if we talk about the obligation not to prevent Kosovo from joining international organizations such as, for example, the Council of Europe, then they should not prevent it,” he said.

“We have the EU Special Representative for the dialogue, and I do not want to do his job by saying exactly what Kosovo should do in this regard. But again, the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities must be done. It means it must be implemented. And now Peter Sorensen was here to listen to the political leaders, what are their expectations, what can be done, what cannot be done, but we will see when he returns next time and what he will offer or ask the parties to do,” he said.
