On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) expressed its gratitude to all journalists and media workers.

In a press release, PDK stated that Kosovo’s decline to 99th place in the World Press Freedom Index is regrettable.

They emphasized that this decline is not the fault of journalists but rather a direct consequence of a repressive environment—one of fear and blackmail—created by the current government towards the media and information professionals.

“On World Press Freedom Day, we express our appreciation to all journalists and media workers in Kosovo, who continue to report with dedication and professionalism despite attacks and public shaming by those in power. It is deeply concerning that Kosovo has dropped to 99th place in the World Press Freedom Index.”

Furthermore, PDK criticized the current government for attacking journalists instead of supporting free journalism.

“This regression is a political and moral indictment of the Government of Kosovo. The Democratic Party of Kosovo stands firmly with journalists and media outlets—because freedom of speech is the foundation of every democratic society,” the statement concludes.
