President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani has expressed concern over the political deadlock and delays in the formation of new institutions following the February elections.

Speaking alongside Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter during her state visit to Switzerland, Osmani emphasized that such delays are damaging to the country, especially since Kosovo still lacks a functioning Assembly, which prevents the ratification of international agreements and the adoption of crucial legislation.

“Kosovo held free and democratic elections in February. The results were certified, and on April 15, the first parliamentary session was held. Unfortunately, over a month has passed since the initial efforts to form the Assembly and Government, and still, there is no success.”

She noted that lengthy coalition talks also happen in many European countries and are not entirely out of the norm, but stressed that citizens of Kosovo are the ones paying the price of this impasse.

“As President, I am concerned about these delays. Without a functioning Assembly, important state matters are on hold. This includes the ratification of international agreements and other legal and economic developments that require parliamentary approval.”

Despite the situation, Osmani remains optimistic:

“I am confident that the political parties represented in the Assembly will soon reach an agreement. When the country’s interest is put above all, a political solution is always within reach.”

Her remarks underscore growing pressure on parties in Kosovo to break the deadlock and convene a functional Assembly.
