Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has disclosed that he recently held separate discussions with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding possible peace talks.

Speaking after his meeting with Putin in Beijing, Erdogan said that despite efforts to advance dialogue, neither leader is ready for a direct face-to-face meeting. He added that he had also spoken with Zelensky by phone.

“Turkey supports a gradual elevation of negotiation levels to turn hopes for peace into concrete results,” Erdogan emphasized.

His remarks lower expectations of a possible leaders’ summit, which had been speculated following Putin’s recent meeting with Donald Trump in Alaska.

Turkey has been repeatedly cited as a potential host for direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, given Ankara’s strategic ties with both sides.
