25 years ago, numerous Serbian police, military, and paramilitary forces in Beleg of Deçan killed and massacred 46 Albanians.
This is one of the largest massacres carried out by Serbian paramilitary forces, who in 1999 began a fierce offensive against the populations of Irzniq and Beleg, one day after they suffered losses from the Kosovo Liberation Army.
Even to this day, the fate of 33 missing persons from this village and other villages of Deçan remains unsolved.
Although investigative teams, first from UNMIK and then EULEX, have dealt with the case, collecting numerous pieces of evidence, direct witness statements presented even at the Hague Tribunal, and conducting autopsies of the crime victims’ bodies, to date, no one has been arrested.
