Donald Trump spoke to reporters ahead of a Cabinet meeting in Washington, commenting on the situation in Ukraine, which he described as “chaotic.”
“We are trying to resolve this issue. I have resolved eight wars. This will be the ninth, and our people are in Russia now to see if we can resolve it,” Trump said.
“It’s not an easy situation, let me tell you. What a mess,” he added.
The former president’s remarks come as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, currently on a state visit to Ireland, expressed a more optimistic tone.
During an event in Dublin, Zelensky highlighted that the pace of peace negotiations and U.S. interest had given reason for optimism: “According to my words, a bit of optimism arose due to the speed of negotiations and from the American side, their interest in this,” Zelensky said.
“This shows that America is not stepping back now from any kind of diplomatic dialogue, and that is good.”
