The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo has called on the holders of the new institutional mandate to prioritize Kosovo’s inclusion in regional U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure and to seriously consider it as part of the country’s future energy policy.
According to the statement, Kosovo is at a crucial moment for the future of its energy sector. Decisions made in the coming months and years will determine not only how electricity is produced but also the country’s level of energy security, economic competitiveness, and ability to meet the needs of a growing economy.
The Chamber emphasized that discussions on energy policy should not be limited to comparing initial investment costs or only considering options presented so far.
“For Kosovo, which continues to rely on outdated generation capacities and significant electricity imports, the time required to build and operationalize new production capacities is a strategically important factor. Every year of delay in establishing new domestic capacities means continued exposure to instability in regional markets, high import costs, and uncertainty in supply,” the statement said.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo believes that the new institutions have an opportunity to build an energy policy based on professional analysis and the country’s long-term interests.
For this reason, the Chamber called on decision-makers to treat access to U.S. LNG regional infrastructure as a priority and evaluate this opportunity as a strategic investment in Kosovo’s energy security, economic competitiveness, and future development.
