Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti welcomed members of Kosovo’s diaspora to the Government’s Open Balcony on Tuesday, emphasizing that the diaspora remains a vital part of the country’s national identity and future development.
Kurti described meetings with expatriates as a source of inspiration, saying they serve as a reminder of Kosovo’s difficult history and the responsibility to build a better future for younger generations.
“The meetings with our diaspora always fill us with energy, inspire us, and remind us of our painful history and the responsibility we have toward future generations,” Kurti said.
He stressed that the diaspora represents far more than citizens living abroad, calling it a natural extension of Kosovo’s national life and a continuation of Albanian identity beyond the country’s borders, where language, traditions, and cultural ties continue to be preserved.
According to Kurti, the government’s approach to the diaspora is based on solidarity and public service, with the goal of ensuring that every Kosovar living abroad feels connected to their homeland through tangible opportunities rather than memories alone.
“The state has an obligation to serve its citizens equally, both inside and outside the country, with the same level of responsibility and care,” he said.
Kurti also pledged that the diaspora would play a greater role in shaping Kosovo’s future, stating that its engagement would no longer remain on the margins of state policy but would be integrated into public policies and decision-making processes as a key pillar of the country’s national and developmental strategy.
