Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has strongly criticized the institutional structure of the European Union, claiming that it is eroding the identity of nation-states.
“The European Union is a structure that destroys the identity of states, removes democracy, and places power in the hands of bureaucrats,” Farage said in an interview for Quarta Repubblica, accusing Brussels of gradually stripping individual member states of their autonomy.
“I love Europeans and I love Europe, especially Italy, but I believe in a Europe of differences, in individual states working together,” he added, warning that if the current direction continues, even Italy could eventually move away from the EU.
“One day there will be Italexit, believe me,” Farage continued, while praising Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“I am a big admirer of her. I think she has brought great political stability to Italy and improved the country’s reputation on the world stage,” he said.
