Kosovo Police have seized nearly 9,000 rounds of ammunition, six firearms, and detained three suspects following a coordinated operation in the Prishtina region triggered by the interception of a Serbia-registered vehicle carrying concealed ammunition.
According to a police statement, officers from the Border Department, in coordination with the Basic Prosecution Office in Prishtina, launched the operation after a lengthy investigation and information provided by Kosovo Customs. Customs officials had stopped a vehicle bearing Serbian license plates and discovered 9mm ammunition hidden inside a specially constructed compartment.
The intelligence-led operation resulted in searches at four separate locations across the Prishtina region.
As part of the investigation, six suspects were identified and brought in for questioning.
Police said the following items were seized as evidence:
- Six firearms (four handguns and two long guns);
- 8,919 rounds of ammunition of various calibers;
- One firearm suppressor;
- €3,470 in cash;
- One vehicle allegedly used in the commission of the offense.
All six suspects were questioned in the presence of their defense lawyers. Acting on the prosecutor’s decision, three of the suspects were placed in 48-hour detention, while the investigation remains ongoing.
Kosovo Police said the operation was carried out through close coordination between law enforcement agencies as part of efforts to combat illegal weapons trafficking and related criminal activities.
