Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was aboard an aircraft that was nearly hit by a drone during takeoff from Moldova, according to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Støre revealed the incident in an interview with Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, saying the aircraft carrying Zelenskyy was heading toward Oslo.
“His plane was almost hit by a drone when it was taking off from Moldova. This is the reality in which he lives,” Støre said.
The Norwegian prime minister did not provide further details about the incident, including how close the drone came to the aircraft or who launched it.
Støre also said that Zelenskyy had told him he had endured a difficult night, remaining on the phone and receiving constant updates about locations across Ukraine where missiles had struck.
“It is a very dramatic situation. It leaves a strong impression,” Støre said.
Zelenskyy arrived in Oslo on Tuesday evening, where he met with Støre and other Norwegian officials to discuss military assistance to Ukraine, particularly strengthening the country’s air-defence capabilities.
Following his visit to Norway, the Ukrainian president traveled to Canada for meetings with leaders there.
