The student list “Students Are Winning” has declared victory in Serbia’s snap parliamentary elections. Celebrations have begun at the students’ campaign headquarters, where representatives of the list delivered a message to the public about the beginning of a new chapter for Serbia.
The students urged citizens to celebrate their victory peacefully and with dignity, avoiding confrontations and violence.
“We encourage citizens to celebrate this victory peacefully, with dignity and pride. Do not fall for provocations, do not engage in conflicts, and do not allow any attempt to stir up tensions to overshadow what we have achieved together. Let our response to every provocation be dignity, to every insult be peace, and to every attempt to divide us be even stronger solidarity,” they said.
They emphasised that they did not want the celebrations to escalate into violence.
“We have not struggled for months only to lose, tonight of all nights, the things that have kept us strong throughout this journey: faith in justice, solidarity and non-violence,” the students stated.
In their victory speech, the students described the election result as the beginning of major changes in Serbia.
“And what about tomorrow? Tomorrow, the work begins. The serious, responsible and difficult task of building a Serbia where the law applies equally to everyone, where the truth is not punished, where knowledge is respected, where young people can see a future for themselves, and where nobody has to live in fear simply because they think differently,” they declared.
“Let this night mark the beginning of a new chapter — one in which we do not divide ourselves into winners and losers, but work together to build a country where everyone has the right to speak freely, know the truth and have a future. Tonight we celebrate victory; starting tomorrow, we build the future. Long live freedom! The students have won!” they concluded.
According to preliminary estimates from CeSID and Ipsos, the Student List has secured approximately 52% of the vote and could win 138 parliamentary seats, potentially giving it an outright majority in parliament.
