The U.S. Senate has confirmed Pam Bondi, former Attorney General of Florida, as President Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General with a 54-46 vote. Bondi, a seasoned legal figure, will play a crucial role in supporting Trump’s administration in reinforcing control over the U.S. Department of Justice. Her nomination comes amid significant staff reductions, including prosecutors and FBI agents involved in investigating Trump’s role in the January 6th Capitol riots.

Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, alongside 53 Republicans, supported Bondi’s nomination, emphasizing her qualifications for the position.

In her Senate testimony, Bondi stated her commitment to eliminating politicization in the Department of Justice and ensuring that all individuals face equal treatment under the law. She also promised to restore trust and integrity to the Department of Justice, particularly after Trump’s claims that Democrats weaponized the system against him.

As Attorney General, Bondi is set to oversee the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

This nomination marks Trump’s second attempt to fill the position following the withdrawal of Matt Gaetz due to insufficient support from the Senate.
