Spain is battling a severe wave of wildfires that has spread across several regions of the country, scorching around 50,000 hectares of land as authorities continue efforts to bring the blazes under control.
Two major wildfires remain active—one near La Mierla in the province of Guadalajara and another near Orés in the province of Zaragoza. According to officials, these are among the largest and most destructive wildfires recorded in Spain this year.
The blaze near La Mierla, located about 100 kilometers northeast of Madrid, broke out on Thursday and has already burned nearly 9,900 hectares. Firefighting operations are focused on the most critical areas, while strong winds continue to fuel the flames and hamper emergency response efforts.
As a precaution, residents of several villages have been evacuated due to the growing threat, while authorities continue to closely monitor the situation to prevent the fires from spreading further.
Spain’s Civil Guard has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, with initial suspicions pointing to agricultural activities carried out during the summer season.
Around 450 firefighters and emergency personnel, supported by ground crews and aerial resources, have been deployed to combat the fires as efforts continue to protect populated areas and contain the active fire fronts.
