NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Monday supported statements made this week by U.S. President Donald Trump that NATO member countries should shoot down Russian drones and aircraft if they enter their airspace, “if such action is necessary.”

“If necessary, I fully agree with President Trump, if it is necessary,” Rutte said in an interview on Fox News’ Fox & Friends.

He added that NATO militaries are trained to assess such threats and determine whether they can escort Russian aircraft out of allied territory or take further action.
