President Vjosa Osmani stated that international partners are asking whether a new government will be formed by May, when the Committee of Ministers is expected to reconsider Kosovo’s application for membership in the Council of Europe.

She emphasized that the failure to form a new government should not be used as an excuse by certain countries to delay the decision.

“In practical terms, it shouldn’t, because the presidency leads foreign policy and the government, although in a caretaker role since March 22, still holds authority. However, in terms of image, it creates a perception. Yesterday, I had several discussions with our partners regarding the May vote in the Committee of Ministers, and many asked whether a government would be elected by then. This creates an impression that can give some countries a reason to say ‘let’s postpone it again.’ We should not give anyone such an excuse. I hope we will have a government and a constituted Assembly very soon,” she said in an interview for RTV21.

Osmani stressed that the country needs a stable government.

“Kosovo needs a stable government. Whether it will be inclusive in a party sense is up to the political parties to decide. As president, it is not my role to interfere in that process. What matters is to have a government voted in the Parliament of Kosovo, a government that respects the Constitution, and above all, prioritizes the interests of the Republic of Kosovo and its citizens. That is what is important,” Osmani said from Antalya, where she attended the Diplomacy Forum.
