Violent Clash Breaks Out Between Government and Opposition MPs in Serbia

A violent clash erupted in the Serbian Parliament today, following intense political tension between government and opposition deputies. The altercation occurred shortly after the session resumed and the agenda was approved.

After the agenda was confirmed, opposition MPs stood up holding banners with the messages “Your hands are stained with blood” and “Corruption kills.” In response, government MPs raised their own banners reading “Yellow scum” and “Corruption is your middle name.”

The verbal altercations quickly escalated as both sides shouted at each other, eventually leading to MPs leaving their benches and physically clashing. The exact cause of the conflict is unclear, but security intervened shortly after to halt the violence.

Just before the fight broke out, an incident occurred when someone snatched a paper from Minister Đurđević Stamenkovski’s hand, which seemed to trigger the physical confrontation.

After most MPs returned to their seats, a new banner was unfurled from the gallery with the message “Yellow scum wants war, Serbia wants work,” which further fueled the conflict as MPs scrambled to seize it.

The Speaker of the Parliament urged the session to continue, warning that failure to proceed would result in lost investments, as well as halted increases in salaries and pensions, directly blaming the opposition for the disruption.

Despite her appeal, the disruptions continued with shouting, whistling, and other forms of interference. Similar interruptions took place during Prime Minister Miloš Vučević’s address.

As the session continued, opposition MPs unfurled another banner depicting a “bloody hand,” which ignited a second round of physical altercations.

After the second incident, efforts to resume the work of the Parliament were abandoned, and a large number of MPs left the chamber. The session, which was supposed to discuss the national budget, was ultimately suspended during the establishment of the agenda.
