The war in Ukraine has entered an uncertain end phase, as efforts to secure lasting peace continue to face significant obstacles.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance, in an interview, stated that the conflict “will not end anytime soon,” emphasizing that even after a landmark U.S.-Ukraine agreement on mineral resources granting America a key role in Kyiv’s future there are still no signs of a quick resolution.

“It’s not going anywhere… it won’t be over soon,” Vance said.

The Kremlin has expressed readiness for direct talks with Ukraine but rejected a U.S. peace proposal that excludes recognition of the Russian-occupied territories.

Ukraine has consistently refused to acknowledge the annexation of its land by Russia, insisting that Vladimir Putin must not be rewarded for his aggression.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that the American president will withdraw from peace negotiations if there’s no visible progress.

“This is not our war,” Rubio said, adding, “Without real advancement, the president will need to decide how much longer we’ll continue committing to this.”

Nevertheless, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that both sides are “very close” to a deal, backing this claim with the fact that his envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks in Moscow.
