Kosovo may be heading toward extraordinary parliamentary elections by the end of June, if the Assembly fails to be constituted before the May 15 deadline.
In the midst of political uncertainty, journalist and Media 10 director Arben Ahmeti has revealed crucial details from ongoing discussions between Vetëvendosje (VV) and the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). According to Ahmeti, if the two parties fail to reach a coalition agreement, they are expected to coordinate a move to constitute and dissolve the Assembly on the same day. This would open the legal path for elections within 45 days, placing the likely election date at the end of next month.
Ahmeti stated that two primary scenarios are being discussed. The first involves a coalition agreement that would also resolve the issue of the presidency. The second scenario proposes constituting the Assembly and dissolving it on the same day, setting the stage for snap elections.
He emphasized that from May 15 onward, consultations between VV and PDK are expected to intensify significantly. Meanwhile, VV is monitoring potential shifts within the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), especially following Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s letter to LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku. VV had anticipated that the letter would provoke internal movement within LDK, potentially altering the political landscape.
As backchannel negotiations continue, Kosovo stands on the cusp of another critical democratic decision, one that could shape the course of governance in the months ahead.
