Following the election of Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker, the Kosovo Assembly continued its constitutive session with the next item on the agenda: the election of deputy speakers.
Five candidates were proposed for the deputy speaker positions, representing the parliamentary groups and non-majority communities.
The Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) nominated Ardian Gola, while the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) proposed Vlora Çitaku. The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) nominated Kujtim Shala.
Representatives of the Serb community nominated Slavko Simić, while Emilia Rexhepi was proposed on behalf of the non-Serb non-majority communities.
Before the vote could proceed, MPs held consultations over the procedure for electing the deputy speakers. The Assembly had to determine whether the candidates should be voted on individually or as a single package.
Following the consultations, MPs agreed that the deputy speakers would be elected through a package vote.
However, the voting process did not conclude because the parliamentary groups were unable to reach agreement on the procedure and the required conditions for completing the election.
As a result, the Speaker called upon the Presidents of the Parliamentary groups to a consultation and gave half an hour break before continuing with the voting of the Vice-Presidents of the Parliament.
The developments follow the election of Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker, who received 62 votes in favor, 16 against and 13 abstentions.
