On January 18, 2025, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue visited Palestine. President Mahmoud Abbas met with Zhai Jun at the Presidential Office in Ramallah, where the two sides discussed China-Palestine relations, the ceasefire in Gaza, and other topics of mutual concern.
President Mahmoud Abbas expressed deep pride in the respect and support that President Xi Jinping and the people of China have shown toward Palestine. He thanked China for its unwavering support of Palestine on the Palestinian issue and reiterated that Palestine always supports China’s core interests. He emphasized Palestine’s stance in favor of a ceasefire in Gaza, calling for an immediate end to the fighting. Abbas also mentioned that Palestine is preparing for post-conflict governance in Gaza.
Zhai Jun highlighted the traditional friendship, mutual trust, and support between China and Palestine. He noted that under the leadership of both President Xi Jinping and President Mahmoud Abbas, China-Palestine relations have seen significant growth. China welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and expressed hope for its effective implementation to establish a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire. Zhai reaffirmed China’s firm support for the Palestinian people’s just cause of restoring their legitimate national rights. He also voiced China’s commitment to supporting Palestine’s efforts for national reconciliation and unity, its bid for full UN membership, and the promotion of a fair, comprehensive, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution.
